Vitamin D3 vs Vitamin D2

Vitamin D3 vs Vitamin D2

New Research Adds to the Evidence

New research is continuing to strengthen the scientific interest in Vitamin D3 as the prefereed form of Vitamin D supplementation.

A recently published study reported that Vitamin D3 may play a more active role than Vitamin D2 in supporting immune-related pathways involved in the body's natural defence mechanisms. Researchers found that Vitamin D3 appeared to simulate elements of the innate immune system that help protect against viruses and bacteria.

The study also highlighted that Vitamin D3 may be more effective at maintaining healthy Vitamin D levels within the body compared to Vitamin D2, an observation that aligns with a growing body of previous research.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D exists in two main supplemental forms:

  • Vitamin D2 (Erogcalciferol) - Typically derived from plant or fungal sources
  • Vitamin D3 (Colecalciferol) - The form naturally produced in human skin following sunlight exposure.

Many researchers now consider Vitamin D3 to be the more biologically active and effective form for maintaining Vitamin D status.

Maintaining healthy Vitamin D levels is important for:

  • Normal immune system function
  • Maintenance of normal bones and teeth
  • Normal muscle function
  • Normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus

At Synergy Biologics, our focus is on providing premium quality Pro D3 Vitamin D products designed to support consistent and reliable supplementation throughout the year, particularly during periods of reduced sunlight exposure.
